The Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra (LIMAGO) began in 1957 as an adult education class sponsored by the Levittown School District in Nassau County. LIMAGO has since evolved into one of the finest orchestras in the tri-state area.
During its history LIMAGO has played for tens of thousands of appreciative music lovers at programs sponsored by libraries, churches, temples, senior citizens and private organizations such as the Sons of Italy and private communities. LIMAGO has performed in a number of towns throughout Suffolk, Nassau, Metropolitan New York and Westchester. LIMAGO has performed at Hofstra, Farmingdale, Adelphi Universities, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. They received tumultuous accolades when they performed aboard the S.S. Britannis and S.S. Victoria during Caribbean cruises.
The orchestra is comprised of mandolins, mandolas, guitars, mandocellos, string bass, drums, accordion and vocalists.
The selections that the orchestra can perform include include a variety of distinctive music. International Folk, Ethnic, Light Classics, Classical and Popular songs from the Great American songbook are all within the repertoire of LIMAGO. Classic Chistmas and Chanukah songs all come alive as the orchestra stringed instruments bring them to life.
LIMAGO is a New York State not-for-profit corporation with tax-exempt status.
